Tutukaka
is the hub of Northland activities. Spend long days enjoying the
sun on the beach while doing nothing other than watching the local
wildlife. Have a swim, or wander along one of the many superb local
walks. (see map below).
Sandy Bay is renowned for surfing. Tutukaka harbour, the coast
and Ngunguru estuary offer superb kayaking. Try a spot of fishing,
either off the coast or on a local charter boat.
Tutukaka Harbour is home
to a fleet of commercial charter vessels which will take you out to chase
the mighty gamefish or
just line fishing for snapper. A photographer will find plenty of spectacular scenery to
capture. Diving & Sight Seeing is a
local favourite sport. Jump aboard one of the regular vessels to the Poor
Knights Islands Reserve which is world renowned as one of the few best
diving spots in the world. There are two local diving wrecks (HMS Tui & HMS
Waikato) this makes the area a must for divers.
At the end of the day, if relaxing has taken it out of you, skip
preparing food in favour of an evening at one of the local restaurants.
